We would like to drive from Curico to San Rafael via 115ch to 145 etc
But is the road doable in late march?
We would rent a SUV?

We are looking to do a circle, Train from Santiago to Curico, on to San Rafale, Mendoza City then the northern pass back into Santiago, Taking approx two weeks

thanks

Hi Carol,

Having never done that myself, I found out it is about 540kms to drive to San Rafael (about 10hr of a drive). On the Argentinian side they where working on paving it and it was estimated to be finished in 2010, so I assume it should be done by now. I have driving through Argentina and I can tell you that even the unpaved roads are in very good shape.

On the Chilean side I read that there are parts paved but its not paved up to the boarder, so you might go through some gravel roads, but you should do fine in an SUV just to go on the safe side!

I hope this helps! Please tell us how your trip goes!!

Thanks

Lorete
