The Best Places For Skiing In Chile

So you’re thinking about the skiing in Chile, great! We have a couple really good world class skiing resorts in the Chilean Andes that compete with the northern and European slopes. They offer possibilities for skiing, snowboarding and even heliskiing for the adrenalin lovers. The skiing season is open from June to September and it can extend until October in the higher skiing resorts, and the resorts have prices that match their quality.

Most of the ski resorts are close to Santiago area, in fact there are 8 ski resorts in the central area. Five of them are bigger than the others and they are the ones that are recognised internationally. The main ones in this area are:

This is one of the best places for skiing in Chile and it’s located 44kms from Santiago on the route to the Cajón del Mapocho. Once you get to km 30 there is a turn off and 14kms further you’ll find the lodge and the hotels. There are trails and ski slope for all types of skiers and snowboarders.

For the adrenaline lovers try heliskiing, available here. The session tickets for this year cost for adults/child $590.000/399.000 pesos which is about double in US dollars. El Colorado Ski Resort El Colorado Ski Resort:

This ski resort is located 39kms from Santiago on the route to the Cajón del Mapocho. It is over the Farallones Ski resort. There are 70 slopes for all kinds of skiers with different abilities. This ski center has the most variety of hotels of all the resorts for skiing in Chile, and at the best prices.

The session tickets for this year cost for adults/child $535.000/360.000 pesos which is about double in US dollars. The daily tickets haven’t been posted yet for this year but they cost around $22.000 pesos which is about $44 US. For more information visit their website at www.elcolorado.cl.

Skiing in Farrellones, skiing in Chile



Farellones Ski Resort:

This ski resort is located 36kms from Santiago, La Parva and El Colorado ski resorts are located at 5 and 6 kms from it. There are a couple of slopes for beginners and intermediates but the main feature here are the varieties of hotel and places to spend the night at bargain prices and since all of the resorts are close by it’s a good options to consider to stay at.

They offer other activities for those who don’t want to ski that include hiking, crosscountry skiing, and other activities that are open only during the summer like rock climbing, paint ball, horse back ridding among others. For more information visit their website at www.farellones-ski.com.

La Parva Ski Resort:

This ski resort is located 39kms from Santiago on the route to the Cajón del Mapocho. There is 38kms of surface with 30 slopes for all kinds of skiers that can be extended, (with a special ticket,) since it’s connected with Valle Nevado. So you can ski and finish in Valle Nevados slopes. The session tickets for this year cost for adults/child $590.000/430.000 pesos which is about double in US dollars.

For the dual resort session ticket its adults/child $700.000/520.000 pesos. This is the most populated resort for skiing in Chile, since it has the most inns and private apartments for rent. Inca Lake Portillo, Skiing in Chile Portillo Ski Resort:
This ski resort is located 164kms from Santiago on the international Andes road to Mendoza. Its one of the most famous resorts for skiing in Chile,and in South America for that matter and it’s held one of the World Championship for skiing. It’s characterised for its beautiful Inca Lake and for its powder snow. Heliskiing? Yes they have it here too!

There are 19 slopes mostly intermediate to advanced difficulty, but there are a couple for beginners. The daily ticket cost around adult/child $30.000/19.000 pesos and season tickets cost $510.000/328.000 pesos.There are a whole bunch of activities for those who don’t want to ski but want to relax.

Lagunillas Ski Resort:

It is located 67kms from south from Santiago and 16kms from San José del Maipo. To drive up you must have chains on the car tires. This resort for skiing in Chile has 13 slopes for all types of skiers and snowboarders. There is also alpine touring (cross-country) type skiing available. This is one of the first ski resorts to have nocturnal skiing in Chile.

Chapa Verde Ski Resort:

This ski resort is 58kms from Rancagua, and its one of the smaller ski resorts of the central area. It has 22 slopes with all types of difficulties for different level skiers and snowboarders. Prices range from adult/child $20.000/11.000 pesos in high season to adult/child $15.000/9.000 pesos in low season, with special discounts for students. Nevados de Chillán Mountain Resort:

This resort has the longest slope for skiing in Chile, in South America in fact. It’s located 80kms from Chillán and is open all year round. It has 31 slopes with different kinds of difficultly for every one. The day ticket for adult/child $29.000/21.000 pesos. The half day ticket adult/child $22.000/17.000 pesos, and the season tickets are adult/child $530.000/370.000 pesos.

At the Termas de Chillán Center there are 9 thermal water heated pools and 3 spa centers for relaxing and getting massages. There are several activities for every age. This ski center is located at 101kms from Los Angeles. This is one of the smaller resorts for skiing in Chile. It has 7 slopes with a variety of difficulties. The prices for this seasons day pass are adult/child $17.000/15.000 pesos and half day’s ticket adult/child $15.000/13.000 pesos. There are discounts for low season skiing.

Centro de Montaña Corralco:

This resort for skiing in Chile is located on the Lonquimay volcano which is 14kms from Malalcahuello and 120kms from Temuco. This is the newest center for skiing in Chile. It has 7 slopes with all types of difficulties. The day tickets are around adult/child $17.000/14.000 pesos and a half day ticket adult/child $14.000/11.000, prices may vary since these are last year’s prices.

There are also excursions available on snow racquets with a tour guide that will take you around the beautiful araucaria park. There is a lodge that you can stay at that includes the day ticket if you stay there. Las Araucarias Ski Resort:

This ski center is located 82kms from Temuco on the Laima volcano. It is located in the National Park of Conguillío and the entrance is through the Los Paraguas sector. The center is surrounded by the beautiful araucaria trees. There are 7 ski slopes, only one for advanced skiing. At the resort you’ll find apartments that can be rented, also there is a lodge. Ski Pucon, skiing in Chile Parque Nacional Villarrica Ski Resort:

This ski resort is located 14,5kms from Pucon, only a 20 minute drive. This is one of the most visited southern resorts for skiing in Chile. It has 20 slopes for all kinds of skiers and snowboarders abilities.

The day ticket costs for this year adult/child $22.000/15.000 pesos, and the half day ticket adult/child $18.000/13.000 pesos. The season tickets cost adult/child $350.000/250.000. The ski resort closes at 5:00pm then it’s closed for the day and everyone leaves and stays in Pucon. Antillanca Ski Resort:

This ski resort is located 98kms from Osorno on the route to Puyehue National Park. It has 14 slopes for all types of difficulties. The day ticket cost around adult/child $18.500/15.000 pesos ($31/25US) and the half day ticket adult $15.500 ($26 US).

El Fraile Ski Resort:

This tiny ski resort is located at 29kms from Coyhaique. This has one of the best views in all the resorts for skiing in Chile, of the lakes Frío and Pólux. It has 5 slopes with 550 hectares to ski down though the Lenga and Ñirre forests. This resort is open from Friday to Sunday except on winter holidays then it’s open from Monday to Sunday. There are lodges for staying the night.


Cerro Mirador Ski Resort:

This ski resort is located 9 kms from Punta Arenas in the National Reserve of Magallanes. It’s on Mount Fenton, more known as Cerro Mirrador. This is the only resort for skiing in Chile that has a view of the ocean. In fact it’s the only resort in the world! This tiny resort has 12 slopes for downhill and cross-country skiing , they are mostly intermediate difficulty slopes.

The day tickets cost adult/child $14.500/10.000 pesos during high season and during low season it costs adult/child $10.500/8.500 pesos. The season tickets cost adult/child $170.000/140.000 pesos.
